YILAA: Raising awareness among young people and women about agroecology and the circular economy

As part of our commitment to promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices, YILAA recently organized a training and awareness session for young people and women. This event aimed to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) in maize and rice production, with a focus on agroecology and the circular economy.
An Intensive Training Course for 125 Participants
This initiative brought together 125 young people and women, divided into two training sessions with 75 participants in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. The participants came from various structures, organizations, and cooperatives, enriching the exchanges and learning through the diversity of their experiences and perspectives.
Training Modules
Agroecology and the Circular Economy
Led by Mr. Dieu Donné Kakessa, this module highlighted sustainable agricultural techniques, integrating principles of agroecology and the circular economy. Mr. Kakessa shared strategies for recycling agricultural waste, optimizing the use of natural resources, and minimizing environmental impacts, thus creating more efficient and ecological production systems.
Introduction to SLCP and Composting Techniques
Presented by Ms. Estelle Hounkpatin, this module aimed to raise participants’ awareness of short-lived climate pollutants, such as methane and black carbon, and their impacts on the climate. Ms. Hounkpatin also introduced composting techniques, transforming agricultural waste into valuable resources and thus reducing methane emissions.
Land Tenure Security for Youth and Women
Presented by Mr. Innocent Antoine Houedji, this module addressed the crucial importance of land tenure security for young people and women in agricultural development. Mr. Houedji highlighted the challenges related to access to land and proposed solutions to improve land tenure security, encourage long-term investment, and support sustainable agricultural practices.
A Lasting and Transformative Impact
This training not only provided practical and technical knowledge, but also fostered rich and constructive exchanges among participants. By equipping them with skills in agroecology and the circular economy, YILAA actively contributes to the fight against climate change and the promotion of resilient and sustainable agriculture.
YILAA is proud of its role in educating and raising awareness among young people and women, helping them become key players in sustainable agricultural development. We firmly believe that these initiatives are essential to building a greener and more equitable future for all.
